President / CEO





Gwen Butterfield is the President and CEO of Butterfield Communications, Inc. Ms. Butterfield founded BCI in 2001. Prior to founding BCI, Ms. Butterfield was the Executive Vice President of RGM, LLC, a land use and planning firm.

As a life-long resident of the South Bay and Harbor Area of Los Angeles, Ms. Butterfield is an invaluable asset for community relations in this region. She has more than 25 years of volunteer and professional community service experience, which has yielded unparalleled strengths in leadership, organization, fundraising, communications and networking skills. Her extensive community experience is combined with a strong relationship with local leadership. She also has strong connections with many stakeholder groups such as organized labor, business organizations and multiple Chambers of Commerce.

Ms. Butterfield has successfully represented clients such as AECOM/City of Los Angeles Bureau of Engineering, Mitsubishi Cement Corporation Long Beach Terminal, Subsea Global Solutions/Parker Diving Long Beach, Alameda Corridor Transportation Authority, Mitsubishi Corporation/Conoco Phillips/Sound Energy Solutions, Port of Long Beach, Valero Refinery, Port of Los Angeles Distribution Center, Fast Lane Transportation, BNSF Railway, Galaxy Commercial Holdings, Cabrillo Beach Yacht Club, Kennedy and Associates, Occidental Petroleum, California Sulphur, Ecology Auto Parts, Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL/WWS), Del Monte Foods, Ardagh Metal Packaging, USA, URS/Port of Los Angeles and Plains All American Pipeline.

She specializes in organizing community and business support for a variety of land use issues faced by businesses in the Los Angeles/Long Beach region. These diverse projects include complex permits and approvals, including environmental impact reports, land use permits, leases with government agencies such as the Port of Los Angeles and the Port of Long Beach stakeholder relations with impacted community members, Neighborhood Councils, Chambers of Commerce and organized labor. Ms Butterfield provides public relations services for businesses whose executives are too busy to attend local meetings and events. She also manages the civic and charitable participation of BCI’s clients.

On October 25, 2018 she was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Harbor Association of Industry & Commerce. This award was given in recognition for her ongoing commitment and dedication to the community. Ms Butterfield served as HAIC President in 2005 and continues to serve on the Board of Directors.

She and her husband reside in Rancho Palos Verdes.
